Architecture

Building and creating are in my blood, and while I am endeavoring to move on from hands on building it is still my daily bread. I love concise, clever design that is minimal and yet holds surprises for the user. My background in joinery and construction together with my design degree enable me to design realistic contemporary spaces in tune with the clients budget and desires. The best part is at this stage there is always a possibility that I can build my designs, ensuring the highest integration of innovation and craftsmanship. Here are shown the designs to date that I have single handedly built since completing my degree in 2013.

Tree House

Technically not a Tree House, but designed and built to feel like one. One large viewing window, with open out walls for maximum view and space without window costs. Project ongoing.

9.6m² Floor area. Coloursteel cladding

Zatori Golden Bay Retreat entrance

Zatori is a retreat in Collingwood Golden Bay. A conversion of the local hospital into accommodation with a separate backpackers wing.

My brief from the client was to create an entrance. To cohere the two disparate buildings and to provide an outdoor area protected from the elements where guests can mingle and wait if needed.

FRAY HOUSE

The brief for Fray House was a home for mother and child with a build price of 150,000 NZD. The section is on a slope, with off street carparks required at the top of the slope. Four and a half months after start onsite the build is almost complete, Suzi has moved in and decks and simple landscaping are underway.  Click on the title to see updated pictures.

Matheson Sleep-out

The brief for this project was to create a living environment outside the main dwelling but on the same property. An existing garage was converted to a sleep-out while a ten square metre studio becomes the kitchen. All grey water collected in tanks and used for garden irrigation.
